Thanks to its strategic location and world-class infrastructure, it has become the leading land trade corridor between Mexico and the United States, playing a critical role in North America's supply chains.

Much of its importance comes from its connection to Laredo, Texas, recognized as the busiest land port of entry for trade between the two countries. Through the World Trade Bridge and other international crossings, thousands of commercial trucks transport automotive parts, electronics, machinery, food products, medical devices, and a wide range of goods destined for the U.S. market every day. The Laredo region handles approximately 20,000 commercial truck crossings daily, accounting for nearly 35% of all U.S.–Mexico trade.

In addition to its highway connectivity, Nuevo Laredo offers a robust logistics infrastructure that includes customs facilities, transfer yards, warehouses, logistics providers, and rail connections. In 2025, a second international railway bridge was inaugurated, doubling rail freight capacity between Mexico, the United States, and Canada, further strengthening the trade corridor under the USMCA.

This logistics ecosystem enables companies to reduce transit times, improve operational efficiency, and maintain a reliable flow of goods to major industrial hubs across North America.

Did you know? The Laredo corridor is also the leading gateway for temperature-controlled freight, handling approximately 8,000 refrigerated truck shipments every day. It plays a vital role in transporting food, pharmaceuticals, and other perishable goods throughout the region.

As nearshoring and regional trade continue to reshape global supply chains, Nuevo Laredo is expected to remain one of North America's most strategic logistics hubs, connecting industries, markets, and business opportunities on both sides of the border.

Alternative Route Planning

Having predefined backup routes minimizes downtime caused by unexpected road closures.

Technology: A Key Advantage During Rainy Season

Real-time monitoring and telematics systems enable fleets to:

Detect harsh braking events

Monitor speed in high-risk areas

Evaluate driver performance

Reduce accidents and accident-related costs

Companies that integrate technology into their logistics operations experience significantly fewer operational disruptions.

Prevention Is the Best Logistics Strategy

While the weather can't be controlled, it can be anticipated. A well-maintained fleet, properly trained drivers, and advanced technology make the difference between an on-time delivery and hours of operational delays.

During the rainy season, safety protects more than your freight—it protects your business continuity.

What Customs Data Reveals About International Trade

Mexico's customs operations do more than inspect goods—they provide valuable insight into the country's international trade activity. Data published by Mexico's National Customs Agency (ANAM), along with reports from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), reveal which industries are expanding, which products dominate cross-border trade, and how these trends shape logistics and ground transportation.

As nearshoring continues to accelerate and the USMCA strengthens regional commerce, understanding what moves through customs is essential for planning transportation routes, selecting the right equipment, and optimizing transit times.

Mexico's Top Exported Goods

According to official ANAM data and complementary statistics from INEGI, Mexico's leading exports during 2024–2025 include:

1. Automotive Products

Vehicles, auto parts, and electronic components continue to lead Mexico's exports, accounting for nearly 30% of all shipments to the United States.

2. Industrial Machinery and Equipment

This category includes electrical machinery, mechanical equipment, and advanced technology products.

3. Agricultural and Food Products

Avocados, tomatoes, berries, and beef remain among the country's most significant cross-border agricultural exports.

4. Electronics and Medical Equipment

Driven by manufacturing operations in states such as Chihuahua and Baja California, these products continue to experience strong export growth.

Each of these industries requires specialized logistics solutions, including dry van transportation, refrigerated shipping, or temperature-controlled equipment with continuous monitoring.

Mexico's Main Imports

On the import side, Mexico's customs authorities report the following as the country's primary inbound goods:

1. Industrial Raw Materials

Steel, aluminum, plastics, and chemical products used in manufacturing.

2. Electronic Components

Microchips and electronic parts that support industrial assembly operations.

3. Energy Products and Fuels

Nuevo Laredo (Mexico's largest land port of entry with the United States)

Manzanillo (seaport)

Veracruz

Tijuana

Ciudad Juárez

Nuevo Laredo handles the highest volume of cross-border truck freight, processing millions of commercial shipments each year and playing a central role in North American supply chain planning.

What Do These Trends Mean for Logistics?

The continued growth of the automotive and advanced manufacturing sectors highlights several key logistics priorities:

Increased demand for door-to-door (D2D) transportation

Greater reliance on real-time shipment visibility

Continued optimization of Mexico–U.S. transportation routes

Strategic customs coordination

ANAM's data is more than a collection of statistics—it provides valuable insight that helps companies anticipate demand, strengthen fleet capacity, and prepare for peak shipping seasons.

Data That Drives Smarter Logistics Decisions

Understanding Mexico's leading imports and exports allows shippers and logistics providers to anticipate demand fluctuations, adjust transportation capacity, and build more resilient supply chains.

In today's increasingly competitive market, informed logistics is efficient logistics.

A Practical Guide to Choosing the Right Logistics Partner

Transportation: The Backbone of Your Supply Chain

Not All Freight Carriers Are the Same

Selecting a transportation provider goes far beyond comparing rates. The right logistics partner understands your operation, adapts to your business needs, and delivers the visibility, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency your supply chain demands.

Whether you're transporting food products, automotive components, or general freight, there are several key factors to evaluate before signing a transportation agreement.

Top 5 Things to Look for in a Freight Transportation Provider

1. Equipment and Industry Expertise
Make sure the carrier operates the right equipment for your specific type of freight.

Dry van trailers for general cargo.

Reefer trailers for food, pharmaceuticals, and temperature-sensitive products

Food grade tanker for liquid food products and other specialized bulk shipments

A modern, diversified fleet gives your business the flexibility to handle changing transportation needs.

2. Proven Industry Experience
Choose a transportation provider with a strong track record. Companies with years of industry experience have successfully managed a wide range of operational challenges and typically maintain standardized processes supported by highly trained drivers and logistics professionals.

3. Coverage and Strategic Routes
Verify that the carrier regularly operates in your shipping and delivery locations. If your business depends on international trade, ensure they have experience crossing through major ports of entry such as Laredo, El Paso, and Nogales, with established cross-border operations.

4. Technology and Shipment Visibility
Real-time GPStracking, digital reporting, and logistics dashboards have become essential tools in today's supply chains. End-to-end shipment visibility gives you greater control, improves communication, and provides peace of mind throughout the transportation process.

5. Regulatory Compliance and Customer Support
Your logistics provider should maintain full compliance with transportation regulations and customs requirements in both Mexico and the United States. Equally important is responsive customer service and the ability to resolve issues quickly to keep your operation running smoothly.

Your Transportation Provider Should Be a Strategic Partner

A freight carrier should be more than just a company that moves your cargo. The right logistics partner becomes an extension of your business—anticipating challenges, optimizing routes, supporting seasonal demand, and providing complete visibility across your supply chain.

Choose Strategically, Not Just Economically

Investing time in selecting the right freight transportation provider pays off through lower costs, stronger compliance, greater reliability, and a more resilient supply chain.

At Zaro Transportation, we specialize in cross-border ground freight transportation between Mexico and the United States. Our modern fleet, real-time GPS tracking, and specialized door-to-door (D2D) services help businesses move freight safely, efficiently, and on schedule through the country's most important industrial corridors.

Maintenance That Keeps the Supply Chain Moving

The dry van trailer is one of the most widely used types of equipment in over-the-road freight transportation and a key component of international logistics. It is essential for transporting goods that do not require temperature control. Keeping it in optimal condition not only helps prevent delays but also protects the integrity of the cargo throughout its journey.

In this article, we'll explain how an effective dry van inspection is performed, the best maintenance practices, and why preventive maintenance is an investment that benefits every importer and exporter.

How Is a Dry Van Trailer Inspection Performed?

A dry van trailer inspection should follow a standardized process, especially for logistics companies operating across international borders. Key inspection points include:

Exterior Structural Inspection: Check for cracks, dents, or corrosion on the trailer walls, doors, roof, and floor.

Doors and Weather Seals: Ensure doors open and close properly and that weather seals prevent water and dust intrusion.

Floor Condition: Inspect the trailer floor for wear or damage that could compromise cargo stability and safety.

Lighting and Reflective Devices: Verify that lights and reflectors are functioning properly to ensure nighttime visibility and regulatory compliance.

Brakes, Axles, and Suspension Although these components are primarily inspected on the tractor, the trailer should also be evaluated to ensure stability during long-haul transportation.

Interior and Exterior Cleanliness: Keeping the trailer clean helps prevent contamination, especially when transporting products such as paper goods, dry food products, or electronics.

Best Practices for Dry Van Maintenance

A well-maintained dry van trailer extends its service life and helps ensure safe, reliable operations. Consider these best practices:

Perform preventive maintenance every quarter.

Apply anti-corrosion treatments in humid environments.

Train drivers to identify early warning signs of potential issues.

Maintain detailed service records for traceability.

Store trailers properly when they are not in use.

These practices not only support compliance with international standards but also help prevent costly repairs and cargo losses.

Which Products Benefit Most from a Well-Maintained Dry Van Trailer?

Keeping a dry van trailer in excellent condition ensures the safe transportation of products such as:

Home appliances and consumer electronics

Clothing, textiles, and footwear

Office supplies and paper products

Industrial and construction materials

Furniture, home décor, and household goods

These products require protection from moisture, impacts, and excessive vibration—risks that a poorly maintained trailer may not be able to prevent.

National and International Regulations

Global regulations, including those established by the FMCSA and ISO 1496 , define safety and maintenance requirements for freight equipment.

At México, la NOM-087-SCT-2-2017: Establishes operational requirements related to commercial motor carrier safety, including driver operating conditions. NOM-068-SCT-2-2014 Requires visual and mechanical inspections of commercial vehicles before they are authorized to operate on federal highways.

Beyond What You Can See

A timely trailer inspection can help prevent fines, customs delays, cargo claims, and even traffic accidents. Dry van trailers account for more than 70% of ground freight transportation in Mexico, making proper maintenance a critical operational and business priority.

At Zaro Transportation, every dry van trailer is thoroughly inspected, maintained, and monitored to provide reliable, efficient cross-border transportation services. Whether you're part of a large manufacturing operation or launching your first export shipment, we offer customized logistics solutions that maximize safety while minimizing risk.

The Key Gear Driving the Economy

The manufacturing industry is the engine that transforms raw materials into consumer goods and industrial products. This sector cannot operate without efficient logistics. It relies heavily on freight transportation to move raw materials, components, machinery, and finished products, both domestically and to international markets.

In Mexico, tractor-trailers are the backbone of this operation, connecting manufacturing facilities with customs checkpoints, warehouses, and customers across the United States—Mexico's largest trading partner.

What Does Manufacturing Need to Keep Moving?

Manufacturing requires a strong supply chain that integrates:

When we talk about logistics infrastructure that truly keeps the continent moving, few routes are as iconic as the Pan-American Highway. This legendary network of roads stretches from the northernmost point of the Americas to the southern tip of the continent, serving as a vital artery for trade, tourism, and cultural exchange between countries. For Mexico and the United States, its importance is not only historical but also economic and geostrateg

What Is the Pan-American Highway and When Was It Built?

The Pan-American Highway is a network of roads extending from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, to Ushuaia, Argentina, with one major interruption in the Darién Gap, between Panama and Colombia. Construction began in the 1930s as an inter-American cooperation project promoted by the Pan American Highway Congress.

In Mexico, the Pan-American Highway was officially inaugurated in 1950 as part of an effort to promote continental integration. It is considered one of the longest highway networks in the world.

Why Is It So Important to Mexico and the United States?

For both countries, this route represents:

A backbone of ground trade under the USMCA.

A critical logistics corridor for international freight transportation, particularly between central and southern Mexico and the southern United States.

A tourism and mobility link that strengthens connectivity between thousands of communities.

Today, freight transportation is a key driver of global trade, but it is also one of the largest sources of greenhouse gas emissions. That is why talking about the carbon footprint in this industry is not just a trend—it is a shared responsibility. What can we do to reduce its impact?

What Is a Carbon Footprint?

A carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions—especially carbon dioxide (CO₂)—generated by an individual, company, or industry. It is measured in tons of CO₂ equivalent and helps us understand the environmental impact of our activities.

How Is It Generated in Freight Transportation?

The carbon footprint in this sector comes mainly from the consumption of fossil fuels such as diesel and gasoline. Factors that increase emissions include:

The use of older vehicles without clean technologies.

Poorly optimized routes and empty miles.

Extended stops with the engine running.

Poorly distributed or inefficiently loaded cargo.

Excessive use of air freight instead of ground or ocean transportation.

How Can We Reduce the Carbon Footprint in Freight Transportation?

Implementing sustainable solutions is key. Here are some of the most effective strategies:

Modern and efficient fleets: Vehicles that meet Euro VI standards or feature hybrid and electric powertrains.

Route optimization: Using logistics software to avoid unnecessary trips and reduce fuel consumption.

Alternative fuels: Such as biodiesel, natural gas, and even hydrogen.

Carbon offset programs: Such as reforestation initiatives or investments in clean energy.
Employee training: Promoting fuel-efficient driving practices and preventive maintenance.

Are There Regulations in Mexico and the U.S.?

Yes. Both countries are moving toward cleaner logistics:

In Mexico, NOM-044-SEMARNAT regulates emission levels for diesel engines. Since 2025, new vehicles have been required to use engines with Euro VI or EPA 10 technology.

In the U.S., the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) promotes regulations such as the Clean Trucks Plan, which establishes strict limits on nitrogen oxide (NOx) and CO₂ emissions.

Both regulatory frameworks require transportation companies to invest in newer, more efficient vehicles.

Key Facts We Can't Ignore

Transportation accounts for 23% of global CO₂ emissions, and of that percentage, 40% comes from road freight transportation. (Source: IEA, 2023)

In Mexico, the transportation sector generates approximately 150 million tons of CO₂ emissions annually, with more than 60% coming from road transportation. (Source: INECC, 2022)

Se estima que la optimización de rutas puede reducir entre 10% y 30% las emisiones por unidad transportada. (Fuente: McKinsey & Co.)

Conclusion: More Environmentally Conscious Logistics

Reducing the carbon footprint of freight transportation is not only a legal or environmental responsibility—it is also a competitive advantage. Companies that integrate sustainable practices can strengthen their reputation, reduce costs, and contribute to a cleaner and fairer future for everyone.

At Zaro Transportation, we are committed to responsible and sustainable logistics practices. If you are looking for a partner that understands the importance of environmental responsibility throughout the supply chain, contact us and discover our green solutions.

Sustainability has become a fundamental pillar of modern logistics. Companies around the world are adopting strategies that not only optimize their operations but also reduce their environmental impact. Among the most notable initiatives are the use of alternative fuels, route optimization, and the integration of electric vehicles into last-mile logistics.

The Use of Alternative Fuels in Freight Transportation

The transition to cleaner fuels is essential to reducing harmful emissions from freight transportation. Natural gas, for example, produces lower nitrogen oxide and particulate matter emissions compared to diesel, helping improve air quality and reduce the environmental impact of the logistics sector. In addition, natural gas can emit up to 70% less CO₂ than diesel, making it a viable option for more sustainable logistics.

Route Optimization to Reduce Emissions and Fuel Consumption

Efficient route planning is key to minimizing fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions. By reducing the distance traveled and driving time, companies can significantly lower their carbon footprint. Implementing systems that consider factors such as real-time traffic and weather conditions allows routes to be dynamically adjusted, improving operational efficiency and contributing to more sustainable transportation.

Last-Mile Logistics and the Integration of Electric Vehicles

The last mile represents one of the biggest challenges in logistics, both in terms of costs and environmental impact. Integrating electric vehicles at this stage offers multiple benefits:

Reduced Emissions: By eliminating greenhouse gas emissions associated with internal combustion engines, electric vehicles help reduce the carbon footprint of logistics operations.

Operational Efficiency: Electric vehicles are designed to be efficient in urban environments, facilitating deliveries in congested areas and improving delivery times.

Lower Operating Costs: Companies that have integrated electric vehicle fleets have observed significant reductions in operating and maintenance costs.

In addition, micromobility, which includes the use of electric bicycles and scooters, is gaining ground in urban deliveries, offering agile and sustainable solutions for distribution in hard-to-reach areas.

Conclusion

The adoption of alternative fuels, route optimization, and the integration of electric vehicles into last-mile logistics are essential strategies for moving toward more sustainable logistics. These practices not only contribute to environmental preservation but also offer companies competitive advantages by improving operational efficiency and reducing costs. The transition toward greener logistics is a necessary commitment to addressing today's environmental challenges and building a more sustainable future.

The auto parts industry in Mexico has experienced significant growth in recent years, establishing itself as a key pillar of the national economy. In 2024, the sector reached record levels in production and exports, with several states playing a major role in its development.

Leading States in Auto Parts Production in 2024

During 2024, several states stood out for their contribution to Mexico's national auto parts production:

Coahuila:Led production with a 14.8% share.

Guanajuato:Accounted for 13.8% of total production.

Nuevo León:Contributed 12.8% to the sector.

Chihuahua: Recorded an 8.7% share.

Querétaro: Accounted for 7.9% of national production.

These states have consolidated their position as key hubs for Mexico's auto parts industry.

Export Value and Main Destinations

In 2024, auto parts production in Mexico reached $121.693 billion, with 90% destined for the United States and Canada, representing a total value of $106.070 billion.

Transportation Routes and U.S. Destination Cities

Auto parts manufactured in Mexico are primarily transported by land using heavy-duty freight trucks. The main export routes cross the following border points:

Laredo, Texas: The main point of entry for Mexican auto parts exports, thanks to its infrastructure and connectivity to the U.S. interior.

Nogales, Arizona:Another significant route for transporting goods to the western United States.

Once in the United States, auto parts are distributed to various industrial cities, including:

Detroit, Michigan: Known as the heart of the U.S. automotive industry.

Chicago, Illinois: An important manufacturing and vehicle assembly hub.

Dallas, Texas: A key node in the automotive supply chain.

Comparison Between 2023 and 2024

Mexico's auto parts industry experienced notable growth when comparing 2023 and 2024. According to data from the National Auto Parts Industry Association (INA), production in 2024 reached $121.693 billion, representing an increase compared to previous years.

Benefits of Mexico's Auto Parts Exports to the United States

Auto parts exports from Mexico to the United States offer multiple benefits:

Supply chain integration:Mexico has established itself as a reliable auto parts supplier, strengthening the U.S. automotive industry's supply chain.

Competitiveness:Geographic proximity and trade agreements allow Mexico to offer high-quality products at competitive costs.

Job creation:The auto parts industry is a significant source of employment in Mexico, driving regional economic development.

Tariffs Proposed by the Trump Administration

In February 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to impose a 25% tariff on Mexican exports, potentially affecting 80% of exports. The measure, justified by concerns related to illegal immigration and drug trafficking, created uncertainty within Mexico's export sector.

Although a 30-day delay was granted for the implementation of these tariffs, the possibility of their enforcement has raised concerns across the auto parts industry. Estimates suggested that, if implemented, the tariffs could result in a 15% decline in the export sector's performance, potentially affecting thousands of jobs and the national economy.

Conclusion

Mexico's auto parts industry has proven to be an essential component of the national economy, with a strong presence in international markets, particularly in the United States. However, recent tariff threats represent a challenge that requires effective strategies to maintain the sector's competitiveness and stability.

Keep in mind that winter officially ends in March, but until then, driving a semi-truck presents unique challenges due to freezing temperatures, snow, and icy roads. Proper vehicle maintenance and safe driving practices are essential to ensuring both safety and operational efficiency throughout the season.

Preventive Winter Maintenance

Performing a thorough inspection of your semi-truck before winter conditions arrive is critical. Here are the key components to check:

Tires: Make sure your tires are properly inflated and have sufficient tread depth to maintain traction on slippery roads. Consider using winter tires to improve grip on snow- and ice-covered surfaces.

Battery: Cold temperatures can significantly reduce battery performance. Inspect the battery's condition and charge to help prevent unexpected breakdowns.

Heating and Defrosting Systems: Ensure the cabin heater and defrosters are functioning properly to maintain clear visibility and keep the driver comfortable during long trips.

Vehicle Fluids: Check and replenish antifreeze, engine oil, and windshield washer fluid using products specifically designed for low-temperature conditions.

Safe Driving Tips for Snow and Ice

Winter driving requires extra caution to keep both drivers and cargo safe.

Reduce Your Speed: Adjust your speed to match road conditions, allowing more time to react to unexpected situations.

Accelerate and Brake Smoothly: Avoid sudden acceleration or hard braking. Gentle inputs help maintain traction and reduce the risk of skidding.

Maintain a Safe Following Distance: Leave additional space between your truck and the vehicle ahead to provide enough room for safe braking if traffic conditions suddenly change.

Carry Snow Chains: Always keep snow chains available and install them whenever road conditions require them, particularly when traveling through mountainous areas.

Prioritizing Driver Health and Well-Being During Winter Routes

Harsh winter conditions affect not only the truck but also the driver. Maintaining your health and well-being is essential for safe operations.

Get Enough Rest: Sleep adequately before starting your trip to stay alert and minimize driver fatigue.

Stay Hydrated and Eat Nutritious Meals: Bring plenty of water and healthy food to maintain your energy and hydration throughout the journey.

Dress for Cold Weather: Wear layered clothing and thermal gear to stay warm both inside and outside the truck.

Plan Your Route Ahead: Check the weather forecast before departing and plan your route accordingly, taking potential road closures, detours, or hazardous conditions into account.

Adopting these preventive maintenance and safe driving practices not only helps extend the lifespan of your semi-truck but also improves driver safety and well-being during demanding winter routes.

Trade between Mexico and the United States is supported by a comprehensive regulatory framework designed to facilitate the exchange of goods and services while ensuring compliance with customs requirements and quality standards.

Understanding these regulations is essential for companies involved in cross-border operations, helping them streamline processes, avoid delays, and succeed in the international marketplace.

Key Customs Regulations

HS Tariff Classification: Correctly identifying the Harmonized System (HS) tariff classification for each product is essential to determine applicable duties and comply with product-specific regulations. Proper classification also helps businesses identify import restrictions and regulatory requirements, reducing the risk of costly errors. (Source: Consulado Mexicano)

Required Documentation: Exporting goods from Mexico requires essential documentation, including the commercial invoice and the customs broker authorization (Encargo Conferido). These documents facilitate efficient customs clearance and help prevent delays, penalties, or compliance issues. (Source: Consulado Mexicano)

Sector-Specific Exporters Registry: Certain companies must register with Mexico's Sector-Specific Exporters Registry (Padrón Sectorial de Exportadores) when exporting regulated products. This registration ensures businesses comply with industry-specific requirements and is mandatory for several strategic sectors. (Source: Consulado Mexicano)

Preferential Tariff Treatment Under the USMCA: The United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) provides preferential tariff treatment for products that meet the agreement's rules of origin. Since taking effect in 2020, the agreement has modernized key areas of North American trade, including digital commerce, intellectual property, and labor standards. (Source: AE Comercializadora)

Non-Tariff Regulations and Restrictions: In addition to import duties, many products must comply with non-tariff requirements, including labeling regulations, quality standards, and sanitary or phytosanitary permits.

For example, products of animal or plant origin must meet the requirements established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) before entering the U.S. market. (Source: Nomverify)

Trade Facilitation Programs: Programs such as the Customs Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (CTPAT) strengthen supply chain security while expediting customs clearance for companies that meet established security standards. (Source: Embajada Americana en México)

Important Considerations

Stay Up to Date with Regulatory Requirements: Keeping current with customs regulations in both Mexico and the United States is essential for avoiding penalties and ensuring smooth cross-border operations. Mexico's legal framework is extensive and includes numerous laws, regulations, and international trade agreements. (Source: Tally Legal)

Work with Customs and Trade Experts: Partnering with experienced customs brokers and international trade consultants can simplify regulatory compliance and optimize import and export processes.

Cross-border ground transportation is the backbone of bilateral trade between Mexico and the United States, facilitating the movement of goods worth more than $700 billion annually. However, this vital industry faces significant challenges that require strategic solutions to ensure efficiency, security, and long-term sustainability.

Key Challenges

Limited Infrastructure
Despite ongoing improvements, the international bridges and highways connecting both countries continue to experience heavy traffic, creating bottlenecks and shipment delays.
Example: In 2022, the Port of Laredo handled $238 billionin trade with Mexico, highlighting the growing pressure on existing transportation infrastructure.

Regulatory Differences
Differences in safety, tax, and environmental regulations between Mexico and the United States add complexity to cross-border operations. These regulatory variations create significant operational challenges for transportation companies moving freight across the border.

Cargo Security
Cargo theft and other criminal activities continue to pose risks to both freight and drivers, making security one of the industry's top priorities.

In 2022, trucks transported $948 billion in freight across the northern and southern U.S. borders, underscoring the importance of implementing robust security measures.

Stronger collaboration between government authorities can help streamline regulations, simplify customs procedures, and reduce logistical barriers.

The United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA) has played a key role in modernizing international trade and facilitating cross-border operations for businesses throughout North America.

Implementing Advanced Security Technologies

improving cargo security, visibility, and traceability throughout the supply chain.

These innovations are becoming essential tools for overcoming the challenges of cross-border ground transportation

Adopting Sustainable Transportation Practices

Addressing these challenges through comprehensive logistics strategies not only strengthens the supply chain between Mexico and the United States but also ensures that cross-border ground transportation remains efficient, secure, and sustainable for years to come.

Is your business ready to overcome these challenges and seize the opportunities of cross-border trade?

Freight transportation is a key component of any company’s supply chain, and choosing the right service can make a significant difference in operational efficiency. One of the most widely used methods in logistics is FTL (Full Truckload). Below, we’ll explore what FTL is, when it is ideal to use it, and the benefits it can bring to your business.

What Is FTL Freight Transportation?

FTL (Full Truckload) is a freight transportation service in which an entire truck is dedicated to a single shipment. This means that all available space on the truck is used exclusively for one customer’s cargo. Unlike LTL (Less Than Truckload), where multiple shipments are consolidated onto a single truck, FTL is used when the shipment fills the entire vehicle or when fast, direct transportation is required.

What Is FTL Used For?

FTL is ideal for shipments that require:

Greater security:Since the cargo is not mixed with shipments from other companies, the risk of damage or loss is reduced.

Direct transportation:With no multiple stops to pick up or deliver other shipments, transit times can be significantly reduced.

Large-volume shipments:: Cuando el volumen de la mercancía es suficiente para llenar un camión completo, el FTL es la opción más rentable y eficiente.

When Should You Use FTL Services?

FTL is the ideal service in situations involving:

Large freight volumes:When the size or quantity of the shipment justifies the use of an entire truck.

Time-sensitive deliveries:For shipments that need to reach their destination quickly and without unnecessary delays.

Fragile or high-value goods:: Si la carga requiere de una manipulación mínima y mayor seguridad, el FTL garantiza que la mercancía no se mezcle con la de otros clientes.

What Types of Companies Can Benefit from FTL?

Wholesalers: Companies that need to transport large quantities of products to distribution centers or retail stores.

Industrial manufacturers: Businesses shipping heavy machinery, large components, or other products that require an entire truck.

Agricultural businesses: Companies transporting perishable products that require fast and controlled transit times.

Examples of FTL in Practice

Automotive companies: Use FTL to transport large volumes of parts and complete vehicles to distributors.

Retail: Large retail chains such as Walmart often use FTL services to transport goods from distribution centers to stores, ensuring efficient inventory replenishment.

Electronics manufacturers: Companies such as Samsung and Apple may use FTL to transport large batches of electronic products that require secure, reliable, and timely transportation.

If your company needs fast, secure, and uninterrupted transportation, FTL is an ideal solution for large-volume shipments or sensitive cargo. At Zaro Transportation, we offer customized FTL services designed to meet your business needs. Contact us today to discover how we can optimize your logistics and improve operational efficiency.

FTL has become a key solution for companies looking to maximize efficiency when transporting large volumes of freight.

The air cargo market continues to experience significant growth. According to the International Air Transport Association (IATA), global air cargo demand increased by 13.6% in July 2024, marking the eighth consecutive month of double-digit growth.

Growing Demand and International Routes

International routes: Cargo tonne-kilometers (CTK) increased by 14.3% compared to July 2023.

Asia-Pacific leads the growth: The region recorded a 17.7% increase, making it the largest contributor to overall growth.

The rise of cross-border e-commerce and constraints in ocean freight have driven a shift toward air cargo, generating increased demand on key routes. Routes between the Middle East and Europe, for example, experienced a 32.2% increase.

Capacity and Market Competition

Despite strong demand, air cargo capacity also reached record levels, increasing by 8.3% in July 2024. Airlines have responded by increasing cargo capacity in the belly holds of passenger aircraft, although this segment grew by 12.8%, its lowest growth rate in the past 40 months. This raises questions about the sustainability of this growth and the level of competition between passenger aircraft belly cargo and dedicated freighter services.

Regional Performance

Asia-Pacific: 17% growth in CTK, representing 33.3% of the global market.

Europe: 16.1% growth, further strengthening its importance in the air cargo market.

Latin America: Despite accounting for only 2.8% of the global market, the region recorded 13.1% in CTK.

Africa and the Middle East: Both regions also recorded growth, although with variations in their cargo load factors (CLF).

Opportunities and Challenges Ahead

Continued growth in air cargo, driven by e-commerce and changes in global supply chains, is expected to increase competition among operators. Airlines and logistics companies must adapt to capitalize on new opportunities by optimizing routes and adjusting capacity to meet evolving demand.

Companies operating in this sector should consider strategies to improve operational efficiency and optimize their cargo routes. Taking advantage of growth opportunities in key regions such as Asia-Pacific and Europe can make a significant difference in an increasingly competitive market.

Conclusion

The air cargo market continues to expand, driven by the growth of international routes and the rise of e-commerce. With demand and capacity both increasing, airlines face the challenge of sustaining this growth while adapting their strategies to an evolving market.

The industry is likely to see greater adoption of technologies such as electric trucks, carbon-neutral fuels, and greener infrastructure to improve energy efficiency.

Key Data on Fuels and the Rise of the Circular Economy

According to the International Energy Agency (IEA), the transportation sector was responsible for 24% of global CO2 emissions in 2021, highlighting the urgent need for decarbonization in the sector.

Shrimp is one of Mexico’s most valuable seafood products, and its export during the peak season is crucial to the country's economy. In this article, we will provide an overview of the peak Mexican shrimp harvesting and export season, the main harvesting regions, export figures, destinations in the United States, the types of transportation used, and the certification required to export this valuable product.

Start of the Peak Mexican Shrimp Harvesting and Export Season

The peak shrimp harvesting season in Mexico generally begins in September and continues through March of the following year. During this period, weather and oceanographic conditions are optimal, allowing for abundant, high-quality catches. This season is essential for coastal communities and exporters, as it is when the highest export volumes are recorded.

Main Shrimp Harvesting Regions in Mexico

The main shrimp harvesting areas in Mexico are located along the Pacific coast, the Gulf of California, and the Gulf of Mexico. Some of the leading shrimp-producing states include:

These regions are not only essential for shrimp harvesting, but are also strategically important for exports due to their proximity to key ports and border crossings.

Mexican Shrimp Export Figures in Recent Years

Mexico is the world's second-largest shrimp producer. In recent years, export figures have shown steady growth. For example:

In 2021, approximately 227,000 metric tons of shrimp were produced.

Of the total production in 2021, 22% came from wild-caught shrimp in coastal bays, while 78% came from aquaculture farms.

In 2022, Mexico exported 32,859 metric tons of shrimp, primarily farm-raised.

These figures highlight the importance of shrimp to the Mexican economy and its relevance in international trade.

Main U.S. Destinations for Mexican Shrimp

The United States is the main destination for Mexican shrimp, accounting for approximately 80% of Mexico's shrimp exports. Major U.S. ports of entry include:

Los Ángeles, California: One of the largest seafood distribution hubs on the West Coast.

Houston, Texas: An important entry point for seafood products.

Transportation Used to Move Harvested Shrimp

Harvested shrimp is primarily transported in refrigerated trucks, commonly known as reefer trucks. These vehicles are designed to maintain the cold chain, which is essential for preserving product quality from the point of harvest to its final destination.

In some cases, refrigerated containers are transported by sea for longer distances, particularly for shipments destined for U.S. ports.

U.S. Certification Required to Export Shrimp from Mexico

To export shrimp to the United States, exporters must comply with the Turtle Excluder Device (TED) requirements established by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS). This certification ensures that the fishing nets used to harvest shrimp are equipped with devices that allow sea turtles to escape, helping protect these endangered species.

TED certification is crucial for accessing the U.S. market, as non-compliance may result in restrictions or a ban on shrimp imports from Mexico.

The export of Mexican shrimp during the peak season involves multiple stages, from harvesting in key regions to specialized transportation and compliance with strict certification requirements. At Zaro Transportation, we understand the importance of these factors and provide logistics solutions designed to preserve product quality and ensure timely delivery to international markets, helping our customers in the seafood industry succeed.
